News today includes the death of two police officers in a Texas shooting, the release of hostages in Gaza and the appointment of a new archbishop of Canterbury. Other stories include a man who stabbed his mother-in-law to death and injured his teen brother-in-law before slitting his wrists, a US military strike on a boat seized by a navy boarding team, the rise of ‘homebody’ economy, and how the government shutdown affects public media.
The front page of the News section usually includes one lead “reefer” story (front-page paragraphs that refer to a variety of articles on inside pages), plus a colorized forecast map and temperature lists for a number of cities throughout the country and the world. USA Today is unique among American newspapers in its use of colored contouring and text to denote different weather conditions, rather than the traditional monochrome shading and simple text used by most other publications.
Each of the newspaper’s four main sections contains a Sports page, a Money page, a Life page and a News page. In addition, the weekly Saturday edition of the paper includes a special section called Destinations & Diversions. On some days, the News or Sports section will take up more than one of the sections’ full pages.
